The farewell hall

You can begin arrangements while you are outside Poland. Start with where your relative is now and whether the funeral will be in Poland or another country.

Start with these details

  • The town and hospital, mortuary or other place caring for your relative.
  • Your relationship to them and any other person involved in the arrangements.
  • The intended country of burial, or whether you are still deciding.
  • Your country, time zone, preferred language and suitable times to speak.
  • Any insurer or assistance company already involved, with its case reference.

If there is insurance, contact the insurer before authorising transport or other substantial costs. Ask which arrangements it will cover and who may instruct the funeral director.

Agree the documents and who will handle them

Ask for a list separating documents you already have, documents the funeral home can obtain under authority, and anything requiring your signature. Confirm the accepted format before posting originals or paying for a translation.

A relative or authorised representative can report a death in Poland. The authority needed for other tasks may differ. We will identify any additional signatures or attendance needed for your arrangements.

Confirm the funeral, cost and travel plans

Discuss the ceremony, cemetery and any existing family grave. Złoty Liść has its own crematorium and two chapels at ul. Fosa 19a in Warsaw. A private farewell is an option, and the arrangements can reflect who is able to attend.

Request an itemised total, including external charges, payment dates and any eligible ZUS benefit settlement. A possible benefit is not confirmation that the whole funeral is covered.

Check which dates are confirmed before booking travel. Keep the agreed plan and a list of outstanding decisions together, so relatives receive the same information.
