The planned resting place helps determine the suitable urn. Discuss it before cremation or travel so the cemetery, dimensions and any transport requirements can be checked together.

Confirm where the ashes will rest

In Poland, plan cemetery burial or placement in a columbarium niche. Keeping an urn permanently at home or scattering ashes is not an ordinary lawful alternative.

If there is an existing family grave, ask the cemetery to confirm whether it can receive the urn and what permissions are needed. For a niche, obtain the usable dimensions before choosing a design.

If the ashes are going abroad, the receiving country's and carrier's requirements also matter.

Compare the available options

Ask the adviser to show the current selection or explain how you can view it. Check which materials and finishes are available for your arrangements rather than choosing from a general description alone.

  • External dimensions and suitability for the grave or niche.
  • Material, colour, shape and finish.
  • Any inscription, engraving or additional decoration.
  • Availability and the total price.

If you are choosing remotely, ask for current photographs and dimensions of the actual options under discussion.

Agree the next steps

Confirm the selected urn in the estimate and check names and dates before approving an inscription. Ask who will arrange the cemetery appointment or handover for transport.

If final placement is later, agree the interim care arrangements, their duration and any charge. Do not assume that storage is unlimited or included without checking.

You can discuss a later ceremony with the urn if you would like one.
